The 2024 ICD-10 Code Changes Are Coming in October. Are You Ready?

With over 395 new diagnosis codes, 25 deletions and 22 revisions that go into effect October 1, 2023, many medical practices will be affected by these changes.   Aideo Technologies will be automatically updating the current set of ICD-10 codes to coincide with this effective date.

However, to prepare for these changes, below are some of the most significant changes to the ICD-10 code set:

  • New code – Familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) which predisposes patients to colon polyps and colon cancer
  • Additions/Revisions – Sickle Cell Disorders
  • New subcategory of ADH (autosomal dominant hypocalcemia)
  • New codes (E88.810-E88.819) to identify insulin resistant metabolic syndromes A and B
  • New subcategory/codes for Chronic Migraine and whether pain is manageable
  • New codes for other hypertension (I1Ax)
  • New subcategory/codes for identify bronchiolitis obliterans and bronchiolitis obliterans
  • New codes added for acute appendicitis (K35.200-K35.211, K35.219)
  • New subcategory/codes for Age-related osteoporosis with current pathological fracture (M80.0B) and Other osteoporosis with current pathological fracture, pelvis (M80.8B)
  • New subcategory for breast density (R92.3 Mammographic density found on imaging of breast)
  • Additional category W44 Foreign body entering into or through a natural orifice for more serious objected such as glass (W44.C1), and button batteries (W44.A1)
  • New Z codes for Family History of Adenomatous polyps for individuals with familial adenomatous polyposis
